The Newsroom can be exciting in small doses, but when the tone is always at a peak, the peaks just make a new floor.

The slightly dour tone is a nice break from season one's inspirational cheerleading and manic rushing-about.

Finding its feet thanks to a compelling ongoing storyline, the second season of Aaron Sorkin's politically-charged HBO drama is an improvement over the first.

The Newsroom is a series that will always contain both very good and not so good Sorkinisms. You'll just have to adjust your expectations and live with it - and no doubt talk about it endlessly.

Sorkin has blessedly toned down and cooled the quip-filled "His Girl Friday" banter enough to inject the show with a healthy dose of realism.
